The Specialized Honours BA Program in Digital Media is an innovative, interdisciplinary and cross-Faculty program that draws on the strengths of the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Lassonde School Engineering.
This four-year program engages contemporary digital culture from a dual arts and science perspective, encompassing technology, media art, culture and communications. Students in the Digital Media have the opportunity to
- develop a computational basis for the creation of digital media imagery and sound, including animation and the simulation of 3D environments
- explore the theoretical, artistic, aesthetic and experiential ideas that provide a comprehensive understanding of digital media creation
- get hands-on experience creating digital media works and investigate the ways in which culture is - and can be - produced through technology
- examine the broad socio-cultural effects of digital media, and contemporary theory and research on the uses of, and responses to, digital media
York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design is one of North America's leading schools for the visual, performing and media arts and design. In addition to Digital Media, the Faculty also offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Film, Dance, Design, Music, Theatre and Visual Art & Art History. Cross-departmental activities are strongly encouraged, and Digital Media students enrich their educational experience by drawing on courses and resources from these areas.
